Anji Play (安吉游戏) is a philosophy and approach to early education developed by Ms. Cheng Xueqin (程学琴) for the public early childhood programs of Anji County, Zhejiang Province, China.

The practice of Anji Play is centered on five interconnected principles--love, risk, joy, engagement, and reflection--a fundamental belief in the ability of the child, and a commitment to the right of every child to experience extended periods of self-directed, uninterrupted, and unguided play.

Since 2001, Anji Play has evolved as a comprehensive approach to early education that includes specific indoor and outdoor materials and environments, routines and expectations, teacher practices, and approaches to professional growth and family and community engagement.

Anji Play has been implemented with fidelity at a significant scale throughout China in publicly-funded early childhood programs, serving children ages 3-6. Anji Play is practiced in all of Anji County's 130 public early childhood programs that serve approximately 14,000 children ages 3-6, and in public early childhood programs in every province and region in China.

Since 2016, Anji Play has been the focus of pilot programs in schools and community-based programs in the United States and Europe, reaching children from birth through adolescence.

Ms. Cheng, the founder of the Anji Play approach, is a tireless advocate for the child's right to True Play, and shares her insights and experience with educators, policy-makers, researchers, and families outside of China through her partnerships with Anji Education, Inc. and the True Play Foundation.
